October 22 - An Intimate Home Newborn Session

By Marie Tilkens, Marie Elizabeth Photography

Washington, DC

About This Session:

I adore in-home newborn sessions because they serve as a reminder of the space we create for our new family. This safe haven is our cherished space in this new chapter of life, and it is my joy to capture families as they begin this abundant journey. This newborn session was no different. It was a crisp, fall day when I found baby Penelope nestled in her favorite spot, her mother's arms - who could blame her? This sweet family transitioned into this new chapter with such grace, and I hope they treasure these photos for years to come.

October 15 - The Kindred Path: Fall Traditions

Here at TKP, we are all about those fall traditions that bring family and friends close, even if they might look a little different this year. So we asked and you answered- "What are you favorite fall traditions?" Here is what you told us, along with  some favorite fall portrait inspiration by our talented readers (because how coud we resist)!

We can not get enough of those dreamy fall tones and cozy feels!

"Every year my kids and I take an afternoon to visit the mountains and go apple picking. The fresh air and watching them reach for the highest apples they can, brings joy to my heart, and is a visual reminder of just how much they have grown from the previous year. It's a tradition that we all look forward to year after year."

"One of favorite fall traditions is carving our pumpkins together; we start with a trip to the pumpkin patch to pick out the best ones. We then spend a cool Saturday morning together, newspaper spread across the kitchen table, drawing out the silliest pumpkin faces we can think of, pulling out all the guts and saving the seeds. Our girls love seeing the faces lit up by candles at night! And of course, we always end the day by roasting the pumpkin seeds afterwards for our favorite fall snack!"

"As much as I love frolicking through corn mazes, and picking out the perfect pumpkin, nothing beats snuggling up with my children on a chilly fall evening. We cozy up on the couch in our warm home, surrounded by the smell of delicious seasonal candles and read our favorite fall stories."

"I just shared a photo from a recent session, it’s a sweet fam that’s moving but hanging outside their home before they move out of town. I shared a little mom hack, what I love to do with my boys- I take them to Home Depot and we try out all the fun/scary animated Halloween decorations and call it a “haunted house”. Here are a few recent images too!"

**These words are from my mama who was photographed in these images.**

"The fall season is what brings the opportunity to travel to northern California to visit family and celebrate and do all the family traditions together as a family. Since becoming a mama the fall season has allowed for new fall traditions like visiting the local pumpkin patch and I find that I bake and decorate more in hopes of making it fun and memorable for my son." -Brianna Powell

"Where can I even start? As soon as that crisp, cool breeze starts filtering through the trees, all I want to do is be outside and in the fresh air. I could do every single fall activity out there, but to be honest my favorite is taking pictures with the world's most beautiful backdrop - the change in nature is just extraordinary. Top on my list? Taking photos of my own family."

We hope you found delight and inspiration, both artistically and in those cozy traditions that fall brings every year. We look forward to seeing more of your beautiful work!

October 8 - A National Arboretum Family Session to Remember

By Becca Allen, Becca Allen Photography

About This Session:

I first met this family 2 years ago when their son was born and was so thrilled to learn that he would soon become a big brother. It is such a joy to reconnect with families – to see who their little ones have become and to see mom and dad grow as parents. We chose an early morning session at the National Arboretum to capture a bit of the early fall colors amongst the grove of state trees as well as the spectacular columns which were part of the United States Capitol from 1828 to 1958. I love the history and scale of the columns as they tower over this little guy and his family and the light that shines through them was truly special.

October 1 - A Virginia Family Session with Whispers of Autumn

About This Session:

The stars really aligned with this one. These two and their most adorable son are not only picture perfect, but the sweetest family to work with. I knew that this session was really going to be the perfect fall aesthetic, just as the whispers on autumn were beginning to break through. The temperature went from being in the 90's the previous week to a dramatic shift to the 60's the day of the session. A friend from Snake Oak Farm in Remington, VA was able to put together a locally grown bouquet of beautiful blooms to tie in not only their wardrobe but also mama and son's gorgeous red hair! The evening was filled with crisp cool air the giggles of a certain little boy whose smile filled the whole space with joy.
